Lesson 01 / Build your understanding

Signs, markings & instructions

Distinguish a stop instruction, a stop line and a crossing without assuming priority from position alone.

01 / Concept

Start with the idea.

Indonesia normally uses the left side of the road (UU 22/2009, Article 108). The illustrated vehicle stays in the left lane for its direction.

Read the actual signal, sign and marking together. A STOP instruction requires stopping; a clear view is still needed before proceeding.

Read the reasoning

Under Article 104, a traffic officer’s directions take priority over traffic-control devices in the stated circumstances. This scene has no officer and is not a complete junction-priority rule.

Key terms
Stop line
A marked position before the controlled conflict area.
Conflict
Two road users may enter the same space.

02 / Predict

What do you expect?

The STOP sign is visible, but the road appears empty. What should happen first?
03 / Experiment → 04 / ExplainChange one thing. See why.

Explain the current scene

The STOP instruction and line are visible. The animation ends before the line; it does not decide that the junction is clear.

Indonesia’s left-side traffic is shown. Use actual local signals, signs and lawful officer directions; this single scene does not establish every junction-priority rule.

05 / Practice

Put the idea to work.

A wall blocks the side-road view after you stop. What is the useful next question?

06 / Recap

Take the lesson with you.

  • A sign, a line and a view provide different information.
  • Keep Indonesia’s left-side context consistent.
  • Local controls and lawful officer directions govern an actual junction.

Check your prediction and solve a practice challenge to complete this lesson.
